Halloween 2020 is likely going to be a "Halloween from home" for many people. That doesn't mean that kids and adults have to go without the fun, spooky delights that make Oct. 31 the most fantasy-filled night of the year. Take a look at the fun and safe ways to celebrate Halloween 2020. Yes, this is the year when being a homebody on Halloween is a scary good idea!

Have a Scary Movie Marathon on Zoom

Oct. 31 is the perfect night to grab some popcorn, get the fire roaring in the fireplace and curl up on the couch in your living room for a personal film festival of all the spooky classics. You don't have to watch alone just because you're socially distancing. Get a group of friends together on Zoom to stream the same movie together. It will be fun to see who sends their bowl of popcorn flying first once the scary scenes kick in!

Do a Scary Photo Shoot

You may be feeling disappointed if you won't be able to show off your family's costumes this year. Why not get some mileage out of those costumes by planning an at-home photoshoot with everyone all dressed up? Have some fun coming up with backgrounds where you and your family can pose for some very artistic, creative photos in your costumes. You can then share the photos on social media.

Plan a "Haunted Hunt" in Your Yard

If trick-or-treating isn't in the cards this year, you can still enjoy the thrill of the hunt! The concept works by basically setting up an Easter-egg hunt for your kids that uses Halloween candy instead. Your kids can dress up in their costumes to frolic in the yard in search of their favorite sweets and treats.

Go on a Halloween Scavenger Hunt in Town

Collecting candy isn't the only reason to go outside on Halloween. It can be fun to visit a neighborhood park or walk around your neighborhood in search of Halloween or fall-themed items. Simply make a list of hunt items that include things like pumpkins, colored leaves, a black cat, a cauldron, a scarecrow and other traditional fall sightings. Take the list with you to check off each item one by one during a fun excursion.

Whip Together a Witch's Brew

Have you heard of a witch's brew cocktail? This devilishly thirst-quenching treat is the perfect way to brew up a little fun at home on Halloween. This drink can be made as a cocktail for adults or mocktail for kids. Here's a quick recipe:

  • 1 6-ounce package of lime gelatin.

  • 2 cups of boiling water.

  • 3 cups of chilled pineapple juice.

  • 1 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime flavored soda or ginger ale.

  • 2 of cups of chilled vodka (for real cocktails only).

Start by pouring your gelatin mix in a bowl before stirring in your boiling water for about two minutes. Once your gelatin is fully dissolved, stir in your pineapple juice, soda and vodka. You can garnish your witch's brew using plastic spiders, striped straws, or black salt on the rim.

Enjoy Safe Haunted Happenings From Home in 2020

When celebrating Halloween this year, there's no shame in simply deciding to stay cozy at home. However, you should still make an effort to put on your costume and partake in some socially distanced mischief to stop the holiday from passing you by like a bat in the night! Do be sure to practice all safety guidelines regarding masks and group sizes if you and your family will be venturing out for traditional Halloween fun.
